100 YEARS OF RUGBY IN PORTUGAL!

The 1st of October 2022 was the day chosen to celebrate 100 years of rugby in Portugal, it was back in 1922 that the recently formed Royal Football Club played a rugby match with Carcavelos Rugby club made of British expats who lived in Portugal at the time.

The game then finished 9-3 to the local Portuguese team and it was the first of many. What better location to celebrate this centenary occasion than the city of Porto, where ageing like the best of Port Wines is a synonym of virtue and where good traditions in life are to be preserved and protected. Porto and the Oporto Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club hosted this celebration where we tried to replicate the same environment lived 100 years ago. This time the local team had the honor to play the Kwazulu Old Boys from Durban (South Africa) who visited Portugal with Sports Ventures Tours and Events.

And WHAT . A . RUGBY . DAY . from start to finish played in the best spirit of amateur rugby where the best part was played in the club house after the match.
