Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun to be renamed the “GLS Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun”

02^nd May 2019: The Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun is to be renamed the “GLS Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun” after Sports Ventures have agreed a multi-year deal with GLS Portugal to title-sponsor the event.

GLS Portugal is the first title-sponsor of the Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun, an international sevens rugby tournament only in its second year which attracted more than 40 international and national teams in its inaugural edition in 2018.

Jose Diogo Trigo de Moraes, Tournament Director of the GLS Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun, said: “This is fantastic news. GLS is a perfect fit for us – a renowned logistics company and brand that will help us grow the tournament in the future years. Together and as the GLS Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun, we will be looking to build and grow the Algarve 7s into the main European Rugby Sevens tournament off the world rugby sevens series circuit. This year the Elite competition will feature a record number of 06 national teams including France, Italy, Hong Kong, Romania, Portugal, Germany plus a large number of prestigious invitational teams and club teams in all of its four (4) competition in play. Sevens rugby represents a big part of the strategy for Portuguese rugby improvement in the future years and GLS and Sports Ventures are committed in working together to give Portuguese sevens players more exposure to international competition with this great tournament held in the Algarve every year.”

The GLS Algarve 7s Sevens in the Sun will take place in the weekend 07-10 June of 2019 at the magnificent Vila Real de Santo António Stadium and Sports complex with its four rugby fields.
