48th Edition Cycling Tour of the Algarve set to take place between 16-20 February 2022.
The 48th edition of VOLTA AO ALGARVE is promising to be another memorable one. Scheduled to be held between the 16th – 20th February 2022, there are now already nine teams confirmed, including five ProTeams and four World Teams including Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team (former Deceuninck Quick-Step), INEOS Grenadiers, Jumbo-Visma and UAE Team Emirates. Among the five ProTeams confirmed at the Volta ao Algarve is the one that, in 2021, was the best ProTeam in the world. Alpecin-Fenix (Belgium), sixth in the teams world ranking will have its second participation in the Volta ao Algarve.
The Volta ao Algarve (Cycling Tour of the Algarve) is a road bicycle racing stage race held annually in the Algarve, Portugal. Since 2017, it has been organised as a 2.HC event on the UCI European Tour. The race has become part of the new UCI ProSeries since 2020. Due to its early February position in the European calendar, it is used by many riders to prepare for the Spring Classics, as the Algarve with its superior training conditions and mild weather throughout the winter months represents the best region in Europe for most sports training preparations. The course of the 48th edition of the Volta ao Algarve will have two stages for sprinters, two high finishes and an individual time trial.
