Lucha Aymar ‘Fight and play with the impossible’.

As the world is combatting the coronavirus pandemic in self-quarantine and through social distancing, Sports Ventures has decided to compile a list of documentaries, films and/or stories about legends of the sport available that are well worth watching and/or reading. Among the many things people will miss out on because of the coronavirus includes the fascinating world of sport. But while new chapters in the stories of each sport have been put on hold, those that have already been written are still quite riveting.

While travelling the world during one of our summer sports tours, I had the opportunity to take North Carolina Tar Heels (NCAA FH Division I 2019 Champions) to Holland in 2014 to play friendly games and also watch the 2014 FIH World Cup Championships in The Hague. It was during this field hockey sports tour that I had the opportunity and privilege to watch Lucha Aymar playing two live world cup games versus the USA (2-2) and Holland (0-4) this game in front of a record crowd of 15.000 people, where Aymar´s pace and excellent dribbling skills, demonstrated, once again, the reason why she was given in Argentina the nickname ‘La Maga’ (The Magician). Lucha Aymar was one of the biggest field hockey players of all time to grace the sport and in 2008 she was declared ‘The Legend of Hockey’ by the International Hockey Federation.

She made history and shattered records with her hockey stick throughout her glorious playing years. The world’s most decorated player won four consecutive Olympic medals from 2000 to 2012, four World Cup medals and an incredible ten, yes ten, Champions Trophy medals. As well as the countless medals she won with her Las Leonas team mates, she was named FIH World Player of the Year a record eight times, a feat that may never be repeated. In her glittering career, Luciana won 376 caps and scored 162 goals for her country.

Here is the first documentary that will not only help you pass the time during self-isolation, but also maybe help some people get a better understanding of the game they love.
